Lies & Broken Promises | ActivistTools.org

It’s understandable why so many voted for Trump, and so many now regret it, even MAGA loyalists.
Wages Are Falling. Wealth and Prices Surging. Americans Are Unhappy.’ NY Times, June 2026.*

Trump’s nonstop lies and broken promises, unprecedented corruption, apparent growing dementia, and vicious personality are fully documented. It was on full display in his lie-filled TV speech July 16, hoping to bolster his obsession with voter suppression, and planned election interference this November. Ironically and hypocritically, he’s fine with 2016 and 2024 election results when he won, but not 2020 when all credible sources agree, he clearly, simply lost! [continued at bottom**]

***Costs of Iran War: Thousands of Lives & Billions of Dollars & In Iran, Trump Risks Another American ‘Forever War’
[NY Times June 19 & See “Foreign Affairs” Lies at right.]

– On top of counterproductive efforts to “seek peace” re Ukraine and Israel’s ongoing genocide of Palestinians, Trump started his war of choice against Iran, closing the Strait of Hormuz, disrupting global trade, and increasing costs of gas, food and everything for Americans and all else!
– As of July 20, 16 Americans have been killed in Trump’s Iran War plus over 400 service members wounded, while nearly 50,000 Iranians have been injured and 9,000 killed, including 120 school girls by a targeted U.S. airstrike the very first day.
– Over 50 detainees have died detained in ICE’s for-profit private prisons evidently due to abuse and medical neglect, and ten killed by ICE officers on the street, including Renee Good, Alex Pretti and two this month in Texas and Maine, none of whom were even ICE targets!

Summary, Methodology & Documentation

Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign and early second-term actions are dominated by unfulfilled pledges and high-profile failures, documented by watchdogs and advocacy groups re: not ending foreign wars quickly but starting new, cutting everyday costs for families, and releasing sensitive documents, while some tax and pardon pledges were kept [1] [2] [3]. Assessments differ across nonpartisan trackers, advocacy groups, and partisan critics, so determining “violated” promises depends on the metric used and which promises are treated as measurable commitments [1] [4] [3].

*For decades both major parties have consistently rewarded their big donors with subsidies, tax cuts, deregulation, and all manner of favors, putting donors’ desires over the desperate needs of American families and workers. Citizens United and other disastrous Supreme Court decisions have amplified this gross injustice. Read the recent Princeton Study (PDF) proving Americans have a near-zero impact on public policy, and that politicians represent only the most wealthy and powerful (“The 1%“).

Donald Trump’s Top 25 Lies of 2025 [CNN]

It was hard to pick only 25. Donald Trump’s second term, just like his first presidency, when the Washington Post Fact Checker documented over 30,000 false statements, was an unceasing parade of lies with staggering frequency. Trump’s lying became especially repetitive in 2025, as he relied on a core set of go-to fabrications he deployed virtually no matter the setting, nor how often they had been debunked. [Adolf Hitler used the phrase translated as the “big lie” in Chapter 10 of “Mein Kampf”, where he described this propaganda technique.]

Inflation, tariffs and the economy

  • Trump secured $17 trillion or $18 trillion in investment in 2025 even as the White House website still had it under $10 trillion.
  • ‘Every price is down’ and there’s “no inflation,” which we all know to be false!
  • Trump said he’d reduce prescription drug prices by ‘2,000%, 3,000%’
  • Foreign countries pay the US government’s tariffs (but the tariff payments to the government are made by US importers, not foreign exporters, and importers pass on some or all of the added costs to the final consumer.)

Public safety

  • Said Portland was ‘burning down’ even though it was absolutely not.
  • Said Washington, DC had no murders for past six months, when it in fact had more than 50 homicides over the six months prior to his speech as police statistics and Washington Post tracking show.
  • ‘I invaded Los Angeles and we opened up the water’ (crazy nonsense).
  • Trump claimed Maryland Democratic Governor Wes Moore called him “the greatest president of my lifetime,” which Moore totally denied, as dozens of others have denied similar self-serving fabrications by Trump).

Foreign affairs

  • Ukraine ‘started’ Russia’s war on Ukraine
  • Trump said he was speaking ‘in jest’ when he promised to immediately end the Ukraine war
  • The US government had planned to spend $50 million on ‘condoms for Hamas’
  • Numerous foreign leaders emptied prisons and mental institutions to send their most undesirable people into the US
  • Trump ended seven or eight wars
  • ‘The people of Canada like’ the idea of becoming the 51st US state
  • Every drug boat in the Caribbean ‘kills 25,000 Americans’
  • Trump said he ‘didn’t say’ he had no problem releasing full footage of a September boat strike

Justice and elections
“If the President does it it’s legal!”-Nixon

  • Obama, Biden (born in the U.S. ;^)]
and Comey made up the Epstein files
  • The 2020 election was ‘rigged and stolen’
  • Capitol rioters ‘didn’t assault’
  • Critical media coverage of Trump is ‘illegal’
  • Trump didn’t pressure the Justice Department to go after his opponents
  • The US is ‘the only country in the world’ with mail-in voting (actually 3 dozen do)

Health care, legislation and Democrats

  • Babies get 80-plus vaccines at once
  • Trump’s big domestic policy bill didn’t change Medicaid
  • In 2025, though, the variety of Trump’s false claims shrunk even as he maintained his trademark staggering frequency. Trump’s lying has always been characterized by dogged repetition.

** NY Times Takeaways from Trump’s Elections Speech July 16

But documents Mr. Trump released and assessments from the intelligence community do not support his statements or contain significant new revelations — and some reach the opposite conclusion. One document posted on the White House website was blunt: “We assess that vote tabulation systems would be difficult to manipulate on a wide enough scale to compromise election results.”

Worse, Trump has spent the first part of his second term dismantling the election protections built up over previous years. The F.B.I.’s task force on foreign influence was shut down, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence sharply cut back a task force that warned against foreign meddling and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency has been gutted. Despite all this, Trump keeps pushing Congress to pass a broad election bill to curb mail-in voting, provide documentary proof of citizenship and show photo identification to vote.

Trump Brings Full Weight of Government to Bolster False Election Claims
The president’s ability to bring a whole-of-government approach to shape how Americans view their elections — and potentially who gets to vote — has alarmed public officials and election experts across the country. Those seeking to join Mr. Trump’s second administration had to pass a key litmus test: Did they believe the 2020 election was stolen from Mr. Trump? With like-minded allies now positioned in key roles throughout the government, Mr. Trump has trained the full arsenal of the federal government on one of his most persistent obsessions: sowing doubt about the security of the country’s election systems. Major agencies such as the Justice Department, the F.B.I., the Homeland Security Department and the U.S. Postal Service have taken steps to revive his false claims about the 2020 election and try to assert federal control over state-run elections.
